A Connected Approach to Healing and Communication

Heal with Myofascial Release (MFR)

If you’re searching for relief from tension, pain, or challenges with movement and function, you’ve come to the right place.

Heal with MFR is more than a phrase—it’s an invitation to reconnect with your body’s natural ability to heal. At Roots of Expression, I offer gentle, hands-on John F. Barnes Myofascial Release®(MFR) for babies, children, and adults. This approach supports the whole body and nervous system—helping clients release fascial restrictions, move with greater ease, and feel more regulated and at home in themselves.

For little ones, MFR can help with feeding difficulties, tongue-tie tension, colic, torticollis, developmental delays, and more. For older children, it can support clearer communication, better self-regulation, and fewer meltdowns or shutdowns.

With a background in speech-language pathology, I bring a unique lens to this work—especially for children who are struggling to express themselves, whether through movement, behavior, or words. Every body communicates, and I listen with both my hands and my heart. Many families find me by searching “heal with MFR”—and that’s exactly what I help them do.

Speech and Language:

A Whole-Body Perspective

Speech and language are whole-body experiences. They’re shaped not only by how we think and speak, but by how we breathe, move, and feel. When communication feels stuck, the body often holds the key.

Traditional speech therapy focuses on brain and mouth function. But research—and experience—show that the fascial system, a web of connective tissue surrounding muscles and nerves, also plays a vital role. Through my work, I’ve seen how releasing restrictions in the body can unlock communication. A shift in breath, posture, jaw, or tongue mobility often leads to clearer, more confident expression.

Fascial restrictions can affect:

  • Oral-Motor Function: Limiting movement for chewing, swallowing, or speech clarity

  • Breath & Posture: Reducing airflow and vocal control

  • Sensory & Receptive Processing: Impacting how the body interprets sound, sensation, and emotion

  • Emotional Regulation: Creating tension that makes it feel unsafe to speak

My Approach:

I combine gentle Myofascial Release with clinical speech-language expertise, supporting communication by addressing the whole body—not just the mouth. Because sometimes, it’s not about trying harder. It’s about moving with more ease.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Each session is 60 minutes and includes an evaluation and hands-on treatment. We’ll begin with an assessment to identify areas of tension, postural imbalance, or compensation that may be affecting comfort or function.

From there, I use gentle, sustained techniques that allow the fascia to release at its own pace. Some clients feel shifts right away, while others notice changes over time. Nothing is forced—your (or your child’s) body leads the way.

HOW TO PREPARE

To help you get the most from your session:

• Wear minimal clothing that allows visual assessment, ease of movement and access to skin. Tank top, sports bra, or gym shorts.

• Avoid lotions or oils on the day of your session (dry, clean skin is essential to the work)

• Babies and children are welcome to bring snacks, toys, or comfort items

• You don’t need to do anything “right”, just come as you are. I’ll meet you there.
